Boat maintenance cost in Dubai: what your quote should include
We don't publish a price list. Here's why, and how to read the quote you do get.

The short answer
The cost of maintaining a boat in Dubai depends on its size, its condition and exactly what work is done, which is why nobody can give a fair price before seeing it. A good quote is itemised, with the lift and relaunch, hardstand days, hull preparation, coatings, parts, labour and VAT on separate lines. Rules of thumb that put yearly upkeep at a fixed percentage of the boat's value are too rough to budget with.
This guide doesn't contain prices either. What it does contain is the structure behind a maintenance quote: what each line means, how it's usually worked out, and which questions make two quotes comparable.
01Why a boat can't be priced over the phone
Four things move the price more than anything else.
Size and weight set the cost of lifting, the space taken on the hardstand and the area of hull to prepare and paint. A 12-metre sports boat and a 30-metre motor yacht are different jobs from the start.
Condition decides how much preparation comes before the visible work. A hull washed and antifouled last year may need a wash and a light sand. One that has gone three years needs scraping, filling and more coats.
The equipment on board decides the parts. An engine service kit, an impeller or a set of anodes differs by make and model, and some parts have to be ordered in.
Then there's what turns up once the boat is out. Some problems only show when the hull is clean and dry or a cover comes off, so a fair quote keeps agreed work apart from work that may be needed.
02The anatomy of an itemised quote
Line names vary between yards, but a complete maintenance quote covers the same ground. This is what each line usually depends on.

Two quotes can only be compared when these lines describe the same work. A lower total often means a line is missing.
03Questions that make two quotes comparable
| Ask | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Which antifouling product, and how many coats? | Products differ in price and in how long they last. One coat and two coats are different jobs. |
| What does hull preparation include? | A wash and light sand costs less than scraping back to bare gelcoat and priming. |
| How many hardstand days are included, and what does each extra day cost? | Delays from weather, parts or added work are charged by the day. |
| Which engine service items are covered? | Oil and filters only, or impellers, anodes, belts and coolant as well. |
| Are parts genuine or equivalent? | Either can be fine. You should know which one you're paying for. |
| How is extra work approved? | Written approval before work starts protects both sides. |
| Is VAT included in the total? | A 5% difference can turn the cheaper quote into the dearer one. |
04What putting work off does to the bill
An impeller is a small part. Left until it breaks up, its vanes can end up in the heat exchanger, and a routine swap becomes a strip-down. Growth that comes off with a pressure wash after one season needs scraping after two. A weeping hose clamp is a few minutes' work, but the water it lets in can reach wiring and pumps.
Grouping work has the opposite effect. Every haul-out carries its own lift, relaunch and hardstand days, so jobs done in one lift cost less than the same jobs spread over two.
05Maintenance is only part of what a boat costs
If you're budgeting for the year, keep these separate. They're priced differently and paid to different people.
- Berthing or marina fees
- Insurance
- Fuel
- Captain and crew
- Registration, licensing and inspections
- Cleaning and valeting
Our quotes, and this guide, cover maintenance and repair only.
06How to get a quote you can compare
Send us what you'd send any yard, and ask each one to price the same list.
- Photos of the hull, the engine room and anything you're worried about
- Make, model and length of the boat
- Engines and generator: make, model and hours
- When the boat was last hauled out, antifouled and serviced
- The work you want done, as a list
We start with a free consultation and give a clear quote after seeing the vessel. If you'd rather budget a year at a time, an annual maintenance contract plans haul-outs, servicing and inspections across the year, so costs arrive on a schedule you already know.

07Common questions
How much does boat maintenance cost per year in Dubai?
It depends on the boat's size, age, condition, engines and how much it's used, so any single figure would mislead you. The quickest route to a real number is an itemised quote for the next twelve months of work on your boat. We give one after a free consultation.
Is antifouling cheaper than a haul-out?
They're separate lines on the same quote. Antifouling needs the boat out of the water, so you pay for the lift, the hardstand days and the coating together.
What does a maintenance quote usually leave out?
Berthing, fuel and insurance; extra work found during inspection, until you approve it; and parts that aren't listed. Ask the yard to put its exclusions in writing.
How often should I review my maintenance budget?
Once a year, and whenever the way you use the boat changes, such as starting charters or leaving it unused for a season.
